Social media is an integral part of our lives and has become a crucial platform for businesses to establish their brands. To be straight with you, you're not connecting with your audience if you're not on social media. With billions of active users, social media platforms allow businesses to reach a vast audience and create brand awareness.
Here are some steps to help you establish your brand on social media:
1. Define your brand: Before promoting your brand on social media, you need to define your brand's identity. Your brand should have a unique voice, tone, and personality that resonate with your target audience. You should also define your brand's values, mission, and vision. I think this is the fun part! You work with those who work closely with you to create a mood board of how you want to present your business. Get inspired by browsing other business platforms, or visit Pinterest to find creative ways to establish your brand.
2. Choose the right social media platforms: Several are available, and not all platforms suit all businesses. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Suppose you decide to be on every platform and can't post consistently on all of them. Building relationships with your customers on those platforms will be difficult if they're unsure when you'll post. You should choose the most relevant platforms for your brand and target audience. For example, if you're targeting a younger audience, you might want to focus on platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Select one or two platforms you know you can handle posting at least three times a week.
3. Create a content strategy: Once you've chosen the right social media platforms, you must create a content strategy. Your content should be relevant, engaging, and informative. You should also use visuals like images and videos to make your content more appealing. Utilizing tools like Canva can help you establish branded content so you're consistent, and your audience will recognize your brand when you show up on their feed!
4. Engage with your audience: Social media is all about engagement. You need to actively engage with your audience by responding to their comments, answering their questions, and thanking them for their support. You should also create polls and surveys to get feedback from your audience. This is literally customer service 101! If you have an in-person shop, you won't let a customer stand in the middle of your store and not ask if they need assistance. It's the same with social media. Timeliness is important.
5. Use hashtags: Hashtags are an essential tool on social media. They help users find content related to their interests. You should use relevant hashtags in your posts to increase their visibility and reach. I recommend using ones that have less than 500K posts under them. Hashtags with more than that are oversaturated, and there's a good chance your content will get buried with all the other posts. Get very niche with them! If you have a bakery in Miami, use tags like #MiamiBakery or #EatMiami to attract local foodies or tourists wanting to find a place to eat!
6. Collaborate with influencers: Influencer marketing is a powerful way to advertise your brand on social media. You can collaborate with influencers in your industry to reach a wider audience and gain credibility. Start with your micro-influencers with a lower following to offer them the opportunity to send them products in return for content. People have more trust for influencers than celebrities, so it's best to ask them to be as honest as possible so you know where you need to improve.
7. Analyze your performance: Finally, you need to analyze your performance on social media regularly. You should track your followers, engagements, and other metrics to measure your success. You can use this data to make improvements and optimize your strategy. If your accounts are set up as business accounts (which they should be!), all the apps provide inside analytics to see how your content performs.
Social media can be a powerful tool for establishing your brand. You can create a strong brand presence on social media by defining your brand, choosing the right platforms, creating a content strategy, engaging with your audience, using hashtags, collaborating with influencers, and analyzing your performance.
