If you're in the social media world, you know that handling multiple platforms is expected of you. Whether you're handling multiple Instagrams for clients or representing an entire brand's social media (all 8 eight of them, plus more...), it's important to know how to balance all of them to ensure you're providing quality content and in different ways. Keep reading to see how you can balance your management so you can stay organized and engaged with all your audiences.
Have a Social Media Calendar
This is probably how you'll stay in order with everything you do. Having a visual of what your social calendar looks like for your clients or company will let you see your posting cadence and if there are any holes that need to be filled.
There are several tools out there that can help you with scheduling and auto-posting. If you're on a budget, Later has a very affordable scheduling tool that you can use for one set of profiles. If you want to do it in what can be seen as "the old fashion way," you can create an Excel spreadsheet to organize your content on a monthly basis (more affordable, but more time-consuming.) There are several free Excel templates you can find on Etsy; even Hootsuite provides a free template you can utilize.
Focus on Platforms that Make the Most Impact
It's one thing to say, "Oh, we're on all the platforms," but are you actually performing well on all of them? You need to make sure you're providing quality content and engaging with all of your audiences on all these platforms. If you're discovering you're missing the mark with some of them, it may be a good idea to look back at your overall strategy goals to decide if staying on certain platforms is really worth the hassle. Review your platforms to see where your audience is engaging with you most and how often you're posting on that platform. It's better to be strongly active and engaging on three platforms versus having eight platforms and struggling to stay active on all of them.
Repurpose Your Content
Your content that performs well on Instagram may be something purposeful on TikTok. Repurposing content can save you a bunch of time on production and make it easier to schedule posts out. Be mindful that a post may do well on one platform but not the other. Be sure to look into who your audience is on all your social channels and ask yourself if your Pinterest audience will resonate with a high-performing post on Facebook.
The Power of Automation
Many people think having chatbots in your social media messages may lower customer service, but it can really boost the satisfaction rate! If you have a lot of FAQs that you catch yourself answering, it's a great way for your audience to get an immediate response rather than waiting for you to check your DMs and not knowing when they'll hear back from you. Sometimes it's hard to remember you opened a direct message and realized the next day you never responded. It's okay! Now that you'll have those FAQs ready to go, you can continue your workday and know those customers will be getting the answers they need.
Block Out Time for Engagement
Especially when you have several platforms, it can be hard to respond to all the comments and messages you get without missing one. Or you get lost in the dangerous doom scroll and forget entirely what you were planning to do in the Instagram app. You can set calendar reminders for yourself so you can go into all your platforms to engage or whatever engagement tool you have on hand.
I've made a habit of engaging the first thing I start work and trying to check in every other hour and by the time I'm done for the day.
With these tips in mind, you can manage those social platforms and not feel so overwhelmed. Share this if you gained insight or with a fellow social media professional who needs to read this. Happy Posting!
