Starting a social media account is as simple as sharing that first post and saying, "Hey, I'm here!" But the true challenge is staying consistent and strategizing on how to make it successful.
One day, I woke up and decided I wanted to create content for my social media account. I truly enjoyed making content for the companies I worked for, so why not capture content for my own life? I'm not going to lie, it did basically feel like I took on another gig, but it's the fact that I genuinely love capturing moments that I can look back on that drives me to keep posting. I thought it would be a good blog post to share with those who may want to dabble in content creation and give them an outline of everything they need to get started.
Ring Light + Tripod
This isn't necessarily a must-have, but I will say content is 100x easier when you have on-the-go lighting and a place to hold your phone. I vouch for this ring light + tripod duo I got from Amazon. It can become super compact and gets all the angles you may need, from flat lays to modeling your outfit
A Plan!
Sounds easy enough, but A LOT of people go into starting a social media account with no plan of action, and the majority fail because it's hard to put content together with no strategy. Take a look at my recent blog on how to set goals for your social media platforms and how to measure success.
Portfolio
For those who may want to get paid to create content for brands, you definitely want to have a portfolio built with examples of your work and analytics to prove it. This will take some time to build as you start to create content. Canva provides several templates you can add your assets to.
An Understanding of Social Media Management and Engagement
Once you've built an audience, it's important to know how to keep them eager for more of your content. Engaging with them by asking questions in the caption or responding back to messages and comments will let them know you care about them.
When it comes to the management side, if you plan on batching a lot of your content, a great way to keep organized is using a social media management software to schedule out your content in advance. Later is an amazing and affordable tool to manage all your social profile and provide brief overview of analytics. I personally think if you're main focus is Instagram, this tool will be great for you. It is definitely built centered around Instagram. My favorite feature is the Instagram grid preview so you can see what the layout of your content will look like before you schedule it all. If a scheduling tool isn't in your budget quite yet, majority of platforms have an in-app scheduler, including TikTok (desktop only).
Preparing and planning your content is one of the hardest parts before launching your platforms, being consistent comes second. Once you've established goals and how to measure them, you'll have endless content ideas streaming out all your platforms!
Happy creating!
